The Linac Coherent Light Source
The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory was the first hard X-ray free-electron laser (FEL) to operate as a user facility. After five years of operation, LCLS is now a mature FEL user facility. Our personal views about opportunities and challenges inherent to these unique light sources are discussed.
متن کاملSaturation Power Tolerance Studies for the Linac Coherent Light Source
The Linac Coherent Light Source is being constructed at the Stanford Linear Acceleration with a projected start of operations in 2008. A number of studies have been initiated for the for the purposes of determining the engineering specifications and tolerances for the fully built machine. This paper takes up a small part of the larger issue; examining the necessary tolerances for magnetic field...
متن کاملSecond and Third Harmonic Measurements at the Linac Coherent Light Source
The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) started user commissioning in October of 2009, producing Free Electron Laser (FEL) radiation between 800 eV and 8 keV [1]. The fundamental wavelength of the FEL dominates radiation in the beamlines, but the beam also produces nonnegligible levels of radiation at higher harmonics. The harmonics may be desirable as a source of harder X-rays, but may also con...
متن کاملOptical laser systems at the Linac Coherent Light Source
Ultrafast optical lasers play an essential role in exploiting the unique capabilities of recently commissioned X-ray free-electron laser facilities such as the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). Pump-probe experimental techniques reveal ultrafast dynamics in atomic and molecular processes and reveal new insights in chemistry, biology, material science and high-energy-density physics. This manu...
متن کاملX-ray detectors at the Linac Coherent Light Source
Free-electron lasers (FELs) present new challenges for camera development compared with conventional light sources. At SLAC a variety of technologies are being used to match the demands of the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) and to support a wide range of scientific applications. In this paper an overview of X-ray detector design requirements at FELs is presented and the various cameras in u...
